Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows, originally created as a Washington State University student project. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins. It is often used as a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop.

NB: Paint.Net is not originally support psd format files, allows lots of photoshop files import in it to continue editing work. However, there is a Photoshop file plugin for it.

  • Windows XP (SP2 or newer), Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server (2003 SP1 or newer)
  • .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (free download from Microsoft)
  • 256 MB of RAM (Recommended: 512 MB or more)
  • 1024 x 768 screen resolution

  • 64-bit mode requires a 64-bit CPU and a 64-bit edition of Windows
